  • Virginia Air National Guard pilot wins Instructor Pilot of the Year award

    The U.S. Air Force announced the recipients of the 2017 Air Force Fighter Annual Awards in May 2018 at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.. Of the five recipients, Maj. “Mongo” Dietrich, 149th Fighter Squadron chief of weapons, was named the Air Force’s Fighter Instructor Pilot of the Year. Dietrich is the first F-22 Raptor pilot to receive this award. He is an instructor pilot in the 149th FS based out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The squadron consists of about 50 members with about half being pilots.

  • 203rd RED HORSE builds school in El Salvador

    Airmen of the 203rd RED HORSE squadron, Virginia Air National Guard, begin construction of a school, kitchen and latrine facility during May 2018 in rural El Salvador. The project was designed to bring vital services and resources to rural communities as part of Operation Beyond the Horizon, conducted by U.S. Army and Air Force active, guard and reserve components along with the El Salvadoran military and civic agencies.
  • 192nd Fighter Wing welcomes new wing command chief

    The 192nd Fighter Wing welcomes a new wing command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Christopher L. Amburn, June 23, 2018, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Command Chief Master Sgt. Michael Bouley, 192nd FW command chief, welcomed Amburn with his last coin. Bouley has served as the 192nd FW command chief for three years and in the United States Air Force since 1979.
  • 149th Fighter Squadron celebrates its 71st year

    The 149th Fighter Squadron, the oldest unit assigned to the 192nd Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, celebrates its 71st year as a fighter squadron June 21, 2018, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The squadron was federally recognized June 21, 1947. The 149th FS is an F-22A Raptor air dominance and T-38 Talon adversary air squadron.
  • Military volunteers and local charities work together to give kids a head start

    Members of the 203rd Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer (RED HORSE), 192nd Fighter Wing, volunteered their time to construct a playground April 20, 2018, at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk, Virginia. The effort was in coordination with the United Way of South Hampton Roads to help a Head Start preschool program remain in the neighborhood it primarily serves.

    A member of the 192nd Fighter Wing Force Support Flight was awarded the 2017 U.S. Air Force Directorate of Manpower, Personnel and Services, or A1, installation-level Force Support Reserve Component Airman of the Year.

    More than 10 cadets and senior members from the Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol Group 4 received first-hand exposure to the aircraft and missions of the Virginia ANG, March 24, 2018, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. CAP cadets observed a launch of the F-22 Raptor, viewed static displays of the F-22 and T-38 aircrafts and observed load trainings, torn down engines and a 20 millimeter gun.
